Money Doesn’t Come Without Guidence ...

Expert melting, assaying and refining techniques to determine the
precious metals content of each and every lot.

Here’s How We Do It

Step 1: What We Process

Scientific Metals provides a wide variety of precious metal services primarily for the dental and jewelry industries. From the jewelry industry, we accept karat, silver, gold, and palladium scrap as well as polishing dust, grindings, and castings. From the dental industry, we accept solids such as crowns, bridges, PFM’s, PFG’s, Inlays, casting sprues and buttons as well as grindings, floor and bench sweeps, carpets and filters.

Step 2: Melting Services

After your lot has been documented, photographed and logged into our system, it is then melted in an induction furnace which can reach temperatures of over 3000 degrees. These high temperatures are necessary to melt platinum and palladium- both of which have higher melting points than gold. Our furnaces ensure a homogeneous melt of your scrap into an ingot or bar ready for an after melt weighing and sampling.

Step 3: Assay and Analytical Services

Pin, drilling and dust samples make their way through the laboratory to be assayed and analyzed using the latest and most sophisticated techniques and instrumentation. To ensure our customers the consistency and accuracy of each batch, we employ the following technologies:

– Fire and chemical analysis
– Inductive Coupled Plasma Spectrometry ( ICAP)
– Atomic Absorbtion Spectoscopy ( AAS)
– X-Ray Fluorescence ( XRF)

Step 4: Settlement and Reporting

Once your lot has been processed, melted, and assayed, we will contact you to discuss your settlement amount and answer any questions you may have. You can rest assure that there will no hidden and unexpected fees. Flexible payment options include check, gold and silver bullion, and casting grain.
