"We gave the office scrap to the gold company through our dental supply rep and received an email telling us the metal had been processed and we were to receive $8413.00. I had seen the ad for Scientific Metals in Dentaltown which talked about hidden fees so we declined the initial offer and asked the company to send us back our metal. We then sent that metal (in a bar form) to Scientific Metals to see if we would really get more like the ad said and without the extra fees we received $ 12,060.42. Good learning experience for the staff to ask questions before going with any smiley face that walks into the office. Thank you!"

"Sent in my scrap to a refining company through their dental supply distributor partnership and was told I was getting approximately $3,700.00 for the scrap. This seemed very low for the amount of scrap I turned in. The processed bar was sent back to me and I turned it in to Scientific Metals who I had read about in one of the journals and the payout for the same bar was $5,712.00."

"I divided my scrap into two equal piles and sent one batch to Scientific Metals and the other to a company my dental supply rep recommended. Both had a similar assay (36-38% gold and 33-34% palladium), however the settlement price from the company my rep recommended was $4,082.34 while the Scientific Metals price was $5,466.45 (about 33% higher). After a closer inspection, I learned the refinery my dental supply rep recommended had an "Accountability Charge" IN ADDITION to their refining fee. Scientific Metals did not have that accountability charge. Needless to say, Scientific Metals will be getting my future scrap metal business and I will be telling all my colleagues the same."

"Our dental supply rep brought in a refiner they had partnered with and told us we would be very happy with our scrap return. We received an email telling us our metal had been melted and processed and that our scrap settlement was $3017.00. We did some research and learned on top of the 10% refining fee there was an additional charge of about 30% and that the total fees amounted to about 38%. This seemed very high and we asked the company to send us our metal back. We then sent the metal in the form of a melted bar to Scientific Metals who did not have the additional 30% fees and received $4450.00 for the same bar. I encourage everybody to let Scientific Metals appraise their scrap."

"I cut each and every crown in half and put one half in Scientific Metals container and the other half in another company’s container ensuring the comparison was apples to apples and sent them off. Each container had the exact same batch as the other and they were within 1g of the total weight of each other. Because the samples were identical in content, the breakdown of the various metals was very close. What was not close, was the amount offered. Scientific Metals were a little over 30% higher. Why? Because the other company had an additional 30% approx. in charges in addition to the refining fee. Thank you, Dave. I will be using Scientific Metals for my scrap metal recycling."

"Thank you Scientific Metals. Attached you will find the initial offer on the melted bar of $ 3,250.00 I received from (-----) a few weeks ago- referred to me by my dental supply company rep. Your final settlement of $4,719.15 is way higher, more than 40% higher. When I looked at the fine print of the initial company's sheet, it had a total of 38% total fees and charges called accountability charges. Thank you again."

"My staff was reluctant to switch and try Scientific Metals because they said our current refiner had the lowest refining fees. They said we usually got between $400 - $600. Sent in our scrap to Scientific Metals and received a check for $1,247.00."

"I submitted my scrap for refining to my dental supplies rep whose company had partnered with a refinery. After receiving my scrap metal results and fully understanding ALL of the fees and deductions, I declined the offer of just under $2,700.00 and decided to have my melted bar returned to me from the company. I submitted this same bar to Scientific Metals and received 32% more, $3,554.00."

"My dental supply rep recommended a refiner they work with and the company sent me a settlement offer for $10,224.64. After reading the fine print of all the fees, I refused the offer and the company sent me back the processed metals. I then sent the metals to Scientific Metals and received the same assay but a dollar amount of $12,415.55. Without the extra costs and fees, I received over $2,000.00 more."

"I had a local rep come in for another product and it turned out he was also a rep for _____ and I gave him some scrap crowns that were collecting over the years. I get back a report from them it came to $8400! Sounded like I won the lottery until I read into the fine print. The figures weren't adding up because of something the company called an "accountability rate". I had to ask three times before I got an answer--they charge 32.5% off the top and then another 10% on the assay report! Most people would see the $8400 and run to the bank. I had them send me the slag block and reached out to Dave at Scientific Metals. Scientific Metals came to my office on a Saturday with a portable XRF machine to test the metal, ran some numbers and overnighted me a check for over $11,000! Do yourself a favor and call Dave at Scientific Metals. Reputable, reliable and honest. More than 30% more for the same material, same bar of metal. Definitely recommended. Anyone is welcome to contact me with questions. You may see this again because I am going to post it elsewhere too. Thanks Dave!"

"I sent in my about 700 grams to a refining company who was exhibiting at one of the trade shows and was informed the bar’s value was $10,152.10. After their 10% refining fee and giving me a 5% promotion, I would be receiving a final settlement figure of $9,644.50. At first, this seemed very reasonable and acceptable. But after a closer look at the report, something did not add up. Based on the metal percentages and the weight of the bar the company had on the report, the bar’s value should have added up to about $14,000.00. After speaking with the company, I was informed that in addition to the 10% refining fee there was another charge/deduction of about 30% that was factored into the formula that brought my final figure down to $9,644.50. I declined this offer and the company send me back the melted bar along with a few metal samples taken from the bar. I decided to send this bar to Scientific Metals for an analysis and a few days later, I received an email from Dave at Scientific Metals informing me the bar’s value was $14,310.00 and that my final settlement figure would be 90% of that- which came to $ 12,879.59. Both companies analysis basically showed the same percentage of gold and palladium at 47% and 11% respectively. The only difference was that Scientific Metals did not have any charges or deductions in addition to the refining fee. The math was simple, I got back 90% of the value of the bar as opposed to 62% of the value of the bar with the first company."

"We were not satisfied with the scrap settlement offer of $1,610.00 when we gave our office scrap to our dental supply distributor rep who told us they had a joint venture with a refining company. We requested they return to us the melted bar and we sent it off to a Scientific Metals who I had read about in Dentaltown. Results – about 35% higher dollar settlement from Scientific Metals – $2,190.00."
